    During the various Trainee courses, trainees will experience the multi-million rand full mission ship handling simulator. It is used to train marine pilots and tugboats, bringing them up to par with International Standards Training, Certification and Monitoring (STCW) requirements and improving their skills by refresher training.

    Transnet Graduate Program | What to expect

    Additionally, the MSoE features Terminal Operations Simulators, RTG Crane, as well as the Ship-to-Shore Container Crane will provide trainees with a real-time opportunity to handle, maneuver and familiarize themselves with all equipment and machinery associated with the terminal.

    Additional simulators such as Reach Stacker, Counter Balance, Mobile Harbor Crane, Rail Mounted Gantry, Straddle Carrier and Truck handling Simulator will be available to add to the elite training provided by the Maritime School of Excellence.

    Eligibility criteria

    To be eligible for the Transnet Graduate Trainee Program, applicants are expected to meet the following requirements:

    • Applicants must be graduates
    • Operator Lifting Equipment (OLE): As an OLE you will focus on supporting port and terminal operations.
    • You will need:
    • Grade 12 (Matric) with Maths and Science,
    • Code 8/EB driver’s license valid for at least three years,
    • computer literate,
    • Be physically healthy,
    • Be prepared to work in shifts and in adverse weather conditions,
    • Pass a pre-screening and medical exam, which will include assessment of hand-eye coordination, depth perception and ability to work at heights.
    • Knowledge of technical certificate N1-N6 will be an added advantage.
    • Skipper Port Operations (SPO): As an SPO, you will be responsible for a vessel over 25 tons, but less than 200 tons, in a port operations area.
    • You will need:
    • Grade 12 (matric) with maths and science,
    • Pass the preliminary examination and the medical examination.
    • Marine Motorman Grade II (MMG): As an MMG, you will undertake maintenance, repairs and servicing of engines and auxiliary vessels on board a ship in a port operations area under the supervision of the Chief Engineer.
    • Here you will need:
    • Grade 12 (matric) with maths and science,
    • An EGPR/GPR (general purpose rating),
    • Pass a preliminary examination and a medical examination and​
    • Be physically fit and healthy.
    • Minimum requirements vary with each subject, however Grade 12 with Level 4 in the following compulsory subjects: English. Mathematics, Natural Science
