Applications are invited from eligible candidates for the 2023 Harry Frank Guggenheim Emerging Scholar Award which seeks to recognize promising graduate student researchers in their final year of writing a Ph.D.
The Foundation welcomes proposals from any of the natural and social sciences or related disciplines that promise to increase understanding of the causes, manifestations, and control of violence and aggression.
The Emerging Scholar Awards 2023 | DETAILS
The award is $25,000 for one year and helps support a PhD candidate to enable timely completion of a dissertation that advances the Foundation’s research interests described above. They are only available to students for support during the final year of their Ph.D. studies.
The award does not support of doctoral research. Applicants may be citizens of any country and study at colleges or universities in any country.

To be considered for the Emerging Scholar Awards 2022/23, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a Ph.D. candidate entering the thesis stage of postgraduate studies. Typically, this means that field research or other research has been completed and writing has begun or will begin at the beginning of the assignment period. If the analysis and writing is not far enough along that the applicant is confident that the thesis will be completed within the award year, no application should be made. In some disciplines, particularly experimental fields, research and writing can reasonably be expected to be completed within the same year, and in these cases, it is appropriate to apply.
