Stellenbosch University Program Tubingen-South Africa is now open for applications from interested and eligible South African students who wish to enroll in a cultural and language exchange program through exposure to German culture and Germany.

The Tübingen-South Africa Program is a cultural and linguistic exchange program which offers South African students the opportunity to be exposed to German culture and language. It also aims to bring closer ties and understanding between South Africa and Germany.

DETAILS | Stellenbosch University Program Tubingen-South Africa

Students spend a month in Tübingen, where they take part in a program designed to provide a wide range of knowledge in a variety of subjects, from language to history to economics. Students also take factory visits and sightseeing tours, making for an exciting four weeks of multi-faceted learning.

Each year, 18 students from Tübingen’s local partner universities have the opportunity of a lifetime to take part in the program. In addition to SU, the other partner universities are the Universities of Cape Town, KwaZulu-Natal, Johannesburg, Witwatersrand, Pretoria and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the Stellenbosch University Tubingen-South Africa Program, applicants are expected to meet the following requirements:

  • Applicants must be enrolled for a full degree at SU.
  • Applicants must be at least in your second year of study
  • They have a total of 60%.
  • You have not traveled abroad before.
  • Be able to travel to Germany for the month of January. and
  • Be a South African citizen OR hold a valid South African study visa.

Scholarship benefits

Successful applicants for the Stellenbosch University Tubingen-South Africa Program will receive the following benefits:

  • Accommodation with a German host family (including a small breakfast).
  • Lunch and dinner during the week in the local student canteen (Mensa).
  • Bus card for the month of January valid in Tübingen and the suburbs.
  • Internet access;
  • Study material (notebook, pen, etc.).
  • Seminars and courses.
  • Expenses related to other, subsequent events and activities.
  • Expenses related to official tours and factory tours, including transportation, tickets, meals, etc. and
  • Extra warm winter clothing if needed.
