Rhodes Scholarships are postgraduate awards that provide support to outstanding students at the University of Oxford. Established by the will of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, Rhodes is the oldest and probably the most prestigious international scholarship program in the world.

Students outside these constituencies can apply for Global Rose Scholarships.

Scholarship Worth/Summaries/Duration:

A Rhodes Scholarship covers all university and college fees, a living allowance (£17,310 per year 2021-22). stipend, health insurance, visa, two economy class flights – to and from the UK – to start and finish studies at Oxford.

The basic term of the scholarship is two years, provided the recipient demonstrates satisfactory academic performance and personal conduct.


Applicants must meet the following requirements to apply for the Rhodes Scholarships:

• Citizenship & residency: Candidates must meet the citizenship and residency requirements of the electoral district of Rhodes for which they are applying.

• Age: Applicants must have been born after 1 October 1997 and on or before 1 October 2004 OR (for older applicants who completed their first degree later than usual). Must have been born after 1 October 1995 AND have met or will meet the academic requirements for completion of a first degree on or after 1 July 2021*

• Education: Candidates must have completed a bachelor’s degree by October after the election. Academic performance must be high enough to secure admission to Oxford University, which is highly selective, and to ensure that Rhodes Scholars are of a high standard.
