    The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Knowledge Co-Creation Program (Long-Term) is accepting applications from eligible and outstanding African students for JICA Graduate Studies and Internship Program of the African Youth Entrepreneurship Education Initiative JFY2023.

    The goal of the Knowledge Co-Creation Program (Long-Term) is to provide opportunities for people from developing countries to study at higher education institutions in Japan and help them build their people network.

    DETAILS | JICA Graduate Studies and Internship Program

    This is intended to assist the human resource development plans of the governments of developing countries and Japan, and ultimately to expand and strengthen bilateral ties between developing countries and Japan.

    The JICA-DSP is implemented by JICA as part of the Official Development Assistance (ODA) from the Government of Japan. The JICA-DSP is offered to international scholars accepted as participants in the JICA Human Resource Development Project who are enrolled in a study program at a Japanese university.

    This program is to support the new generation who want to contribute to the development of industries in Africa. – to cultivate individuals who bridge the gap between Africa and Japan through a deep understanding of Japanese society and Japanese business culture. September 2023 – August 2026 (Maximum period) – 6 months as a research student, if applicable – 1 or 2 years as a Master’s student – ​​Internship after graduation for limited participants only.

    Eligibility criteria

    To be eligible for the JICA Master’s and Internship Program, applicants are expected to meet the following requirements:

    • Applicants must be citizens of one of the 54 African countries
    • Applicants must be under forty (40) years of age (as on April 1, 2023)
    • Degree (equivalent to at least 16 years of academic background) For more information, please visit the Universities website
    • Candidates for the “From the Private Sector” category are required to:
    • To have work experiences
    • Not be working for Japanese companies at the time of joining the program (arrival in Japan)
    • Candidates for the “From Government” category are required to:
    • Have more than 6 months work experience in their current organizations and
    • To obtain permission to apply and
    • To secure reinstatement from their current organizations.
    • Any employment prior to completing university is not considered work history. Only full-time work with a degree, such as night school, is approved as work experience.
    • English Language Proficiency: Sufficient English skills in both written and oral communication to complete the Master’s degree, such as TOEFL iBT :80 / CEFR :B2 (estimated score) -The required level of English for admission may vary depending on the university.

    Application Procedures

    How to apply: All applications must be submitted via email to the following addresses: [email protected] / [email protected]. The subject of the email should be: “[ABE Initiative FY2023] Application submission”.

    For applicants applying for FY2023, in principle, the application procedures will start when JICA offices abroad contact the governments of the respective countries and the other relevant organizations to provide detailed information about the program.

    The application form for the FY2023 ABE Initiative Program consists of:

    • Declaration of desired university position (Appendix 1)
    • Details of current and previous work, research plan and career plan after graduation (Appendix 2)
    • Medical history (Appendix 3)
    • English test score (if applicable)
    • Certificate of Completion of Undergraduate Studies
    • A copy of “Officially Certified Copies of the Original” is acceptable
    • Must be written in English or accompanied by an official English translation (3) Academic transcript
    • It must contain all grades earned at the university the applicant is attending.
    • A copy of “Officially Certified Copies of the Original” is acceptable
    • It must be written in English or accompanied by an official English translation. Copy of valid passport with photo (to verify nationality, name, gender and date of birth). Valid ID and birth certificate are acceptable if you do not have a passport. A certified English translation must be attached if the ID is not written in English, French, Portuguese or Spanish). 2 ID photographs (4 cm×3 cm) pasted on the application form (Original and copy). Photocopy of official English test certificate etc. (if it exists). Health certificate (in JICA format) to be submitted after 4th Selection (candidates who cannot produce certificates may be rejected).
