Bournemouth University Sports Scholarships are available to high level athletes coming to study at either undergraduate or postgraduate level at BU.
The scholarship is available to provide you with the funding you need to develop your sporting skills and take them to the next level. Applicants can apply for up to £5,000 funding and use that money for training, equipment, competition fees, travel expenses and/or support services.
Applicants must demonstrate excellence in their chosen sport, be part of a regional, national and/or international team and compete at that level. However, scholarship recipients will ideally represent Bournemouth University in the BUCS program (League and Individual), as well as themselves and/or their club at regional, national or international level.
Individual athletes should also be competitive with top performances within the BUCS programme. In addition, if you are awarded a scholarship, you will need to meet with the Director of Athletic Performance to assess how the funds will help you throughout the year, commit to attending 75% of practices and representing the university in athletic events which was able to raise the profile of SportBU’s activities and be featured in marketing material.
As part of your application for Bournemouth University Sports Scholarships, you will need to attend the trial process and be assessed by our coach.
You must ensure that your application is supported by a report from a high performance coach or National Governing Body coach/ If you are applying for a sport outside of our BUCS performance scheme you will need to confirm that two references are sent with your application.

Recipients will receive up to Bournemouth University Sports Scholarships to fund equipment, travel, coaching, match fees and support services.
Eligibility for Bournemouth University Sports Scholarships
- Applicants must be high performance athletes.
- Applicants should have the drive to excel athletically and academically.
- Applicants should also apply for full-time undergraduate and postgraduate programs at Bournemouth University.
- Applicants applying for the Bournemouth University Sports Scholarships should have excellence in their chosen sport.
- Applicants are expected to be part of the regional, national or international team and should compete at that level.
- Applicants must attend the trial process and be assessed by the coach as part of the Bournemouth University Scholarships application.
- Applications should be endorsed by a high performance coach or National Governing Body coach.
- Each applicant should send two references if their chosen sport is outside the BUCS programme.
