Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarships 2023/2024 for Developing Countries

The 2023-24 application cycle for Aga Khan Foundation The International Scholarship Program is now open and will run from 1 January 2023 to 17 March 2023. During this time, applications can be obtained from the Aga Khan Foundation or the Aga Khan Education Council/Service office in the country of the applicant’s current residence.

The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to distinguished students from selected developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies, in order to develop effective scholars and leaders and prepare them for employment, primarily at AKDN.

Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship 2023/2024 | ELIGIBILITY

  • geographical range: The Foundation accepts applications from nationals of the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar and Mozambique. In France, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the USA and Canada, applications are accepted from those who originate from one of the above developing countries, are interested in development-related studies and have no other means of financing their education.
  • Residency requirement: The Foundation only accepts applications from eligible nationals listed above who reside in one of the countries where there are local offices of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), Aga Khan Education Services (AKES) or Aga Khan Education Board (AKEB) processing applications and interviewing candidates.
  • Age limit: Students under 30 are preferred.

Prize details

  • Financial Aid: The Foundation only assists students with tuition and living expenses. Travel costs are not included in AKF scholarships. Financial aid is provided based on student need, but ISP should be viewed as a lender of last resort.
  • Loan conditions: Half of the scholarship amount is considered a loan, which must be repaid with an annual service charge of 5%. A guarantor is required to co-sign the loan agreement. The payback period is five years, starting six months after the period of study sponsored by the Aga Khan Foundation.

Application Procedures

How to apply: AKF International Scholarship Program application processes are decentralized. Students can get application forms from 1st January every year from AKF offices the Aga Khan Educational Services / Councils in their countries of current residence. Completed applications should be returned to the organization from which the form was received. They should not be sent to Geneva.
